Light Stabilizers for the Protection of Plastics against UV Radiation

This includes several UV-absorber technologies such as benzophenones, cyanoacrylates, benzotriazoles and triazines as well as a versatile portfolio of low and high molecular weight hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), which help to protect polymers against the photo-degradation. Adding Chimassorb®, Tinuvin®, Uvinul® light stabilizers to plastics materials leads to a much reduced and significantly delayed loss of optical and/or mechanical properties and allows such plastics articles to be used in extended outdoor applications. In fact, depending on the polymer matrix and the stabilizer system used, lifetimes beyond 15 years become possible. Recycling The recycling of plastics plays and increasingly important role for the life cycle of plastic articles. Special considerations need to be taken into account in view of plastics materials which have suffered some initial degradation during primary processing and service life. Such initial degradation is being aggravated by secondary processing and life cycle as stabilizers are being consumed.
