Coolants
Mobility of the future – The right radiator protection for all engine technologies
GLYSANTIN® more than just an antifreeze: As a premium coolant from, it offers triple protection against corrosion, overheating and frost. It guarantees the long-term functional reliability of your cooling system – throughout the year.
Applications
Motor coolant concentrate
The products of the Glysantin® range are ethylene glycol-based engine coolant concentrates for water-cooled engines. The Glysantin® brand, BASF's original, is today one of the world's most frequently used products for first filling. The ethylene glycol coolant concentrate is constantly being adapted to meet the current requirements of leading car manufacturers to protect the engine of every vehicle against corrosion, overheating and frost. Through hybrid technology, inorganic and organic inhibitors provide corrosion protection in the cooling system. The premium radiator protection products are available in all inhibitor technologies. We offer Glysantin® in the following colors: pink, green, blue-green and colorless.
Corrosion protection
The Glysantin® coolant protects all materials used in cooling systems, such as gray cast iron, cast aluminum, steel and brass, against corrosion. If no protection is available, water and high temperatures ultimately provide ideal conditions for corrosion in the cooling system.
Overheating protection
The Glysantin® engine coolant protects against breakdowns in summer. Ethylene glycol, the main component, not only lowers the freezing point of water, but also raises its boiling point, thus preventing the radiator from boiling over. In addition, it also prevents the formation of deposits inside the cooler. Deposits can quickly clog the fine cooling channels in the radiator and greatly reduce the release of heat to the ambient air, with the result that the engine can easily overheat in hot summer weather.
Frost protection
The premium coolant based on ethylene glycol protects the coolant from freezing, so it also acts as an antifreeze. In the cold season there is a risk that the water in a vehicle cooling system will freeze in winter temperatures. In the worst case, the expanding ice can burst the radiator and engine block. The radiator antifreeze prevents this.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Glysantin® product range
How long can GLYSANTIN® products be stored?
In the closed original packaging GLYSANTIN® products can be stored for at least three years from the date of manufacture. In the vehicle - i.e. mixed with water - you should follow the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer. As a rule, we recommend a change every three to four years.
In what proportion should GLYSANTIN® be diluted with water?
If the radiator protector is changed and BASF GLYSANTIN® products are used, we recommend a mixing ratio of 50 : 50 (GLYSANTIN® : water) in order to preserve the protector from corrosion of all materials used in cooling systems, such as cast iron, cast aluminium, steel and brass. It should be noted that the concentration of GLYSANTIN® should never be less than 33 % and never more than 60 %. If you are looking for a product for direct use, please use the premixed GLYSANTIN® Ready-Mix products. GLYSANTIN® Ready-Mix products are premixed with water in a ratio of 50 : 50 and can be used directly.
What should I do if the cooling system is filled with the wrong coolant?
First remove the coolant, clean the cooling system sufficiently with water and then fill the appropriate GLYSANTIN® solution in the correct ratio.
Which GLYSANTIN® product does my vehicle need?
You can use our product finder or contact our experts.
Can normal tap water be used to dilute radiator protection concentrates?
Tap water can normally be used. Normal tap water can generally be used as long as it is not harder than 3.5 mmol/l (20 degrees of German hardness) or not contaminated with more than 100 ppm chlorine or sulphate. Information on this can be obtained from the local waterworks. We recommend the use of fully demineralised or distilled water. If you are looking for a product for direct use, please use the GLYSANTIN® Ready-Mix products already premixed with water.
